Project background
The central challenge in recruitment of foreigners is the lack of Finnish language skills. Foreigners are not used to Finnish job hunting and miss hidden jobs. Higher education institutes offer seldom contacts to working life during studies. Therefore, development of practical training system, development of Finnish language courses and English recruitment channels are needed. Also more interaction between actors in the field of education and working life is needed.
WorkPlace Pirkanmaa is based on the study "Recruitment of Foreign Employees in Tampere Region" (available in Finnish) made by the Baltic Institute of Finland in 2007. 200 employer organisations participated in the study and 16 organisations were interviewed for profound information.
Objectives
WorkPlace Pirkanmaa is a preparatory project which concentrates on creating different operation models that strengthen the relationships between employers and foreign students in higher education institutes in Tampere region. The ultimate goal is to facilitate foreign students way to working life and create new services for employers that support the recruitment of foreigners. The project activities aim at developing new recruitment channels, practical training, Finnish language courses and multicultural training.
Project partners and funding
The project is funded by the Council of Tampere Region. Other financing partners are City of Tampere, Tampere Summer University and Unipoli Tampere. Tampere Chamber of Commerce, KPM-Engineering and INTO (international student organisation) offer their expertise to the project.
