Background and objectives
SPb InnoReg involves 12 partners from Finland, Germany and Russia. The project aims to promote sustainable economic development and competitiveness of St. Petersburg through strengthening the regional innovation system (RIS) and improving the utilization of the innovation and research potential of St. Petersburg in cooperation between Finnish, German and Russian partners.
The project improves international networking and collaboration between regional authorities, universities, technology centres and enterprises. The project will also bring closer Russian and EU notion on innovation system to ensure better cooperation possibilities between Russia and the EU in the field of fostering innovations.
Activities
1. Analysis of the existing regional innovation system in St. Petersburg will be produced and recommendations on improving the innovation system will be elaborated.
2. Regional training events and study tours are organized to ensure involvement and capacity building of all key innovation system actors and sustainability of the analysis results.
3. Existing, emerging and most potential clusters and technology areas in St. Petersburg will be identified from a transnational cooperation perspective.
4. Innovation Working Group will be established. Indicators to monitor the innovation strategy implementation in St. Petersburg will be selected.

The project is co-financed by the EU Baltic Sea Region Interreg IIIB Programme. Total budget of the project is EUR 625 000, out of which about EUR 460 000 will be co-financed by the EU. Project duration: August 2007-August 2009.
