Finnish Companies at the Polish Environmental Fair POLEKO 2001

The POLEKO fair is the most important environmental technology exhibition in Poland and an excellent way to enter the Polish market. The Baltic Institute of Finland coordinated a joint stand of five Finnish environmental technology companies at the POLEKO 2001.

 

 

Baltic Sea strategy for Neopoli Ltd

As an assignment of Helsinki University of Technology, The Baltic Institute of Finland designed a Baltic Sea strategy for Neopoli ltd. The assignment was a part of a project, which aims at enhancing the strategy planning process of Neopoli Ltd by formulating a basis for development of most important areas of priority. Goal of the Baltic Sea strategy is focusing the international activities of Neopoli Ltd.

 

 

Latvia as an business area –report

In summer 2001, as an assignment of the Centre for Extension studies of the University of Turku, The Baltic Institute of Finland elaborated a report about Latvia as an business area. Report acted as an updated version of the previous report, which surveyed Poland and Baltic countries as an business areas for small and medium sized companies, and which was made by the Baltic Institute of Finland in 2000.

 

Latvia report is a part of “In a way to Latvia” –project, addressed to Finnish companies and conduced by Centre for Extension studies. Assignment comprised also lectures during the Latvia –seminar in Turku.

 

 

Enforcement of the EU Environmental Legislation on Local and Regional Levels: a Training Course For Environmental Authorities of Coastal Provinces in Poland

The purpose of this project was to develop capacities of local and regional authorities in Polish coastal provinces in environmental management and policy-making. In addition, the training covered such issues as: EU financing, project management, environmental information policies, waste and water management, sustainable tourism, etc.

 

In order to prepare the training, a workshop Fenno-Polish Environmental Cooperation: Environmental Training and Development Needs of Polish Seaside Provinces was organized in November 2000.

 

 

Chemical Industry and the Environment - a Finnish-Lithuanian Cooperation Project to Create an Environmental Management System for the Lithuanian Company Dirbtinis Pluostas

This technical assistance project was launched by BIF in 1999 and was completed by the end of 2001. The aim of the project was to improve the standards of environmental conservation by using Finnish environmental expertise in Dirbtinis Pluostas - a large chemical plant in Kaunas producing synthetic fibres - and to help the company develop an environmental management system that complies with ISO standards. The project promoted also environmental cooperation between enterprises, educational institutions, and authorities from Kaunas and Tampere regions. During 2001, the environmental management system was completed and training materials were prepared for similar projects to be carried out in other transition economy countries.

 

 

Utilization of Information Technology (IT) at Latvian Schools

A one-week training course for Latvian teachers was organized by BIF in November 2000. The main objective was to train a group of teachers for more versatile use of modern information and communication technologies (ICT) in their teaching methods.

 

The training course was based on a similar project carried out for Estonian teachers in 1999. The project was financed by the Nordic Council of Ministers BaltNet program.

 

 

Train the Tiger Trainers - a Training Project

A training project Train the Tiger Trainers took place in April 1999 in Tampere, Finland. The project was designed to train 30 Estonian teachers of different subjects on the use of information and communication technology (ICT). The goals of the training were: to change the old understanding of teaching; to introduce active learning methods and new possibilities offered by ICT; to integrate ICT into the teaching process; and to develop collaborative, internet-based educational projects between Estonian and Finnish teachers.

 

The project Train the Tiger Trainers was a part of the Estonian Ministry of Education Tiger Leap program. This program was launched with the objective to upgrade the education system in Estonia, while creating provisions for constructing an open learning environment.

 

The Tiger Leap program is helping Estonian teachers to acquire computer skills and guiding them to the possibilities in teaching his or her subject, provided by contemporary information technology. The aim of the Tiger Leap is to improve education of students, to introduce new learning methods and create modern learning environment. The program is targeted primarily for general education, including basic, vocational and higher education, as well as for advanced training for teachers.

 

 

Tripartie Gateway Project

The Institute participated in the Tripartite Gateway project in cooperation with International Management Development Institute IMDI which joins together American, Russian and Finnish business leaders.

 

 

Baltic Sea Directory

The Baltic Institute of Finland developed one of the first www-based information networks in the Baltic Sea region called the Baltic Sea Directory. Later this lead to the creation of the Baltic Sea Alliance, an international joint forum for communication management.
