REPORT ON AIR QUALITY MANAGEMENT SYSTEM IN ST. PETERSBURG

Report on Air Quality Monitoring and Management system of St. Petersburg is prepared by a team of leading Finnish experts, Harri Pietarila and Jari Walden from the Finnish Meteorological Institute and Ms. Maria Myllynen from the environmental unit of the Helsinki Metropolitan Area Council in close collaboration with Russian experts from the Committee for Nature Use, Environmental Protection and Ecological Safety of the City of St. Petersburg. This report is compiled and edited by the project coordinator Ms. Minna Hanhijärvi from the Baltic Institute of Finland.

The analysis includes the following key issues: description of the present measurement system (measuring stations and instruments, maintenance, data acquisition and distribution systems, quality assurance and quality control procedures, data processing, management and information methods) and air quality assessment methods used (e.g. emission inventory and dispersion models). The report will be used as a basis for identifying both local and joint activities and cooperation objectives in developing city air quality management systems and innovative awareness raising methods and tools.

The report is available as a publication from the Baltic Institute of Finland.
