Contribution of the Baltic Institute of Finland to the EU Strategy for the Baltic Sea Region
An EU Strategy for the Baltic Sea Region is currently being prepared by the European Commission.
The aim of the EU Strategy for the Baltic Sea Region is to coordinate the efforts of various actors in the Region so that by working together they would promote a more balanced development of the Region. The Strategy will be one of the main priorities of the Swedish EU Presidency during the second half of 2009.
The Strategy marks a significant step in Baltic sea collaboration, and the Institute hopes to have input on the planning process from the perspective of tangible collaborative projects in the Baltic Sea region. The Institute has kept a close eye on the preparation of the Strategy for since its conception in 2005. Consultation on the Strategy was open for all relevant stakeholders by 31 December 2008.
