BIF launches new IPR project

BIF continues its successful IPR cooperation in the Baltic Sea region with a new project focusing on cooperation between customs authorities and IPR holders. The new 9-month long project is designed to promote regular cooperation and information exchange between Finnish and Russian customs authorities, other law enforcement bodies and IPR holders and IPR lawyers, and to develop business-customs cooperation in Russia by utilizing Finnish experiences and cooperation models.

The project is funded by the Finnish Ministry of Employment and the Economy, and it starts with a three day study visit and seminar in Helsinki on 17-19 November 2010. During the event, Russian law enforcement bodies will have a chance to familiarise themselves to business-customs cooperation in Finland/EU with case studies from such companies as  Nokia, Toyota, Pfizer, Rapala, Sony Ericsson, Absolut, Nike, adidas and Konica Minolta. Russian law enforcement bodies, Finnish customs authorities, IPR holders and lawyers will be offered an unique opportunity to discuss the challenges caused by the traffic of counterfeit goods and new possibilities of the fight against counterfeit traffic between Russia and the EU countries. Nordic Council of Ministers also provides financial support for the Helsinki event.
