BIF contributing to the EU BSR Strategy flagship project on research & innovation, clusters and SME networks

BIF is assisting the Finnish Ministry of Employment and the Economy in the Finnish preparation of the flagship project on research & innovation, clusters and SME networks. The flagship is among key actions under the economic pillar of the soon-to-be-approved EU Strategy for the Baltic Sea Region. Finland is responsible for a task force on transnational clusters.

The suggested flagship project  will focus on innovation and increased competitiveness in various business sectors in the BSR. The objective is to create prosperity, economic growth and new jobs in the region through enhanced cluster and innovation transnational cooperation. Increasing the transnational linkages will be an important underlying strategy of the project. Small and medium sized enterprises (SME’s) along with competitive clusters and innovation milieus will be part of the suggested measures. The programme is proposed to be launched during 2010. This flagship project is led by Sweden (Vinnova) and co-led by Lithuania.
