Finnish-Russian Innovation Forum

Tampere, 14-15 September 2006

The Finnish-Russian Innovation Forum was organised by the Baltic Institute of Finland in collaboration with the Institute of Regional Innovation Systems in St. Petersburg, Tampere Polytechnic – University of Applied Sciences and Tampere University. The high-level forum organised in the Museum Centre Vapriikki gathered together over 100 participants, including leading Finnish and Russian innovation policy makers and practitioners.  

The forum provided a topical overview on recent trends and developments in innovation policies and innovation performance in Russia, especially in St. Petersburg. Good practices on Finnish innovation system, cases and opportunities for Finnish-Russian innovation cooperation were introduced and discussed. The forum provided a good opportunity for Finnish companies and research institutes to get acquainted with Russian innovation actors interested in cooperation.

The main speaker of the Finnish-Russian Innovation Forum was Mr. Mikhail Osejevski, Vice-Governor on economic development, tax, industrial, scientific and technical policy of St.Petersburg. Mr. Osejevski presented the innovation situation in St. Petersburg, where the biggest challenge is the creation of regional innovation system. Mr. Osejevski stressed that St. Petersburg wants to learn from Finnish experience and good practices in innovation development. The conditions for developing the innovation system are good. There are two Special Economic Zones in St. Petersburg which facilitates all the processes of developing regional innovation system, with a special emphasis on the high-technology business in St. Petersburg.

VBN InnoReg project kick-off meeting was organised in Tampere, 28-30 March 2006

The Baltic Institute of Finland organised a three-day kick-off meeting of the VBN InnoReg -Strengthening Via Baltica Nordica Macro-Region through Transnational Cooperation for Regional Innovation Promotion project on 28-30 March 2006 in Tampere. The meeting gathered over 40 representatives of the 17 partner organizations from Sweden, Finland, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland and Germany.
