Democratic Renewal in Canada: Survey and Analysis
Inside Canadian political institutions, a new trend for democratic renewal and reform appears to be afoot. The Crossing Boundaries National Council Working Group on Democratic Renewal conducted a survey of major Canadian ‘democratic renewal’ initiatives underway as of April 2004 in an attempt to draw together the best thinking and practice behind them, with a special emphasis on the role information and communication technologies (ICTs) are playing in aiding these processes. This research was conducted through a combination of web-based research and one-on-one interviews with representatives of the initiatives under investigation.
Digital Technology: Working for Parliament and the Public
Report by the House of Commons, Information Committee (Session 2001-2002)
Diversity, Trust and Community Participation in England
This Report uses data from the 2003 Home Office citizenship Survey to explore levels of trust and community participation. It looks at whether there is a relationship between how diverse an area is in terms of socio-economic and ethnic groups and the levels of trust between neighbours and in relation to institutions such as the police, Parliament, the courts and the local council in that area. It also examines the relationship between this diversity and community participation.
Balanced e-Government Scorecard
The prime objective of the Balanced E-Government Scorecard study is to examine the diverse activities associated with digital administration and compare them on an international scale. The study examines economically viable applications of the new information and communication technologies that are accepted by citizens. It proposes a set of strategic and tactical elements which forma "balanced scorecard" by which organisations can rate their own e-government initiatives.
Strategic Audit 2003
Strategic Audit 2003 provides a condensed summary of the work. The material draws extensively on international comparisons. These are rarely up-to-date, and are better at describing the UK’s performance in the late 1990s than now. However, they are useful tools for mapping the UK’s long-term relative performance.
