Study tour to Trento took place 19 December 2005 following the study tour to Bologna. Trento is located only in less than a three-hour train trip from Bologna. Project partners involved in the component 2 and 3 were invited to attend this study tour, since city of Trento has developed interesting open source applications for the city electronic document management system as well as smart card services for citizens. |

Trento information technology and eGovernment experiences were introduced by Mr. Covelli, IT Director. The city has adopted a Java web application open source framework as a basis for document and information management system in the city administration. The city has invested in development of open source solutions for tailor made systems to be used both in the city administration as well as in the public services for citizens. Development, maintenance and up-dating of the systems is carried out by specialized city staff.

The document management system in Trento is based on Lotus notes/Domino platform. The system is designed to integrate management of records and lifecycle of formal documents and it is now experimented. The goal is to build up paperless environment in the city administration with automatic document search.
Trento is developing city smart cards since 2001 with a goal of integrating digital signature to the card services. At the moment Trento is experimenting Java Applet solution for dignital signature part of the smart card project supported by Italian government. |

In the end of the working seminar, participants had a session where differents solutions applied in the partner cities to document management systems and services for citizen were discussed. Open sources applications adopted in Trento provide an interesting alternative, which is not in common use in other project partner cities.
